Greenhouse with holiday flair

Join us for the annual Holiday in Bloom at the Joe and Alice Rinard Orchid Greenhouse at Ball State University. Musical performances by Sedoctave a BSU a cappella group will be at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. We will have children's activties, a silent auction, beautiful orchids on display, holiday lights and refreshments. Afterwards take a short stroll next door to the Marilyn K. Glick Center for Glass for glass blowing demonstrations. Then take the MITS Trolley over to Minnestrista for the Enchanted Luminaria. Make it a night to remember!

Enjoy a warm, sensory Saturday afternoon at the Rinard Orchid Greenhouse

Explore sights, smells, and textures of various tropical plants in the Rinard Orchid Greenhouse, located in Christy Woods on the Ball State University Campus. 

Walk-in program for families/children   Ages 5+:  1:00 – 2:00 p.m. 

Registration not required, but first come, first served.

Take advantage of the early morning light and moisture to photograph orchids and other tropical plants, large and small. Bring your cameras, tripod and an assortment of lenses and surround yourself with this beautiful environment.

The Dr. Joe and Alice Rinard Orchid Greenhouse houses the largest collegiate collection of orchids in the Unites States, with 2000 orchids. There is ALWAYS something in bloom throughout the year.

Explore the greenhouse with your friends and family. Explore the greenhouse using magnifying glasses, look under a microscope, and have fun learning about plants. For all ages. No reservations needed.

Plant Sale/Fundraising Event 2017

Rinard Orchid Greenhouse Plant Sale*/Fundraising Event 2017

Spring Cleaning! And (annual) clearing out of extra and duplicate plants from greenhouses to  make room for additional research.  All plants will have a suggested donation amount and all funds generated will be used  for greenhouse supplies.  Plants include succulents, hanging ferns,  orchids, outdoor  landscaping perennials, herbs and many others. Great Graduation/Mother’s Day gifts!   

When: Saturday, April 29th, 2017   
Time: 9:00 a.m.- Noon

Orchid Repotting Demonstrations: 10:00 and 11:00

Location: Christy Woods Classroom, South Service Building, located in Christy  Woods. Parking is available off University Ave., to the south of Christy Woods.
