First Thursday opening party for Aimee Maychack and Michael Prater, Thursday, April 3, 5 - 8 pm: Gordy Fine Art and Framing is proud to highlight the art of two artists, Aimee Maychack and Michael Prater. The party will be on First Thursday, April 3, from 5-8 pm.The artists will be on hand. Light refreshments will be served, and the public is invited to attend.
Aimee is primarily a printmaker who often works with linoleum blocks known as Linocut. A linocut is a type of relief print with a lot of similarities to woodblock printing in the way it yields heavy lines with dramatic and expressive results. Essentially, the artist carves an image into a linoleum block and what's left of the block is inked and printed. Sometimes Aimee adds color using gouache which is an opaque watercolor paint. Aimee is also a flight paramedic on IU Health LifeLine. Sometimes her images are composed with unusual perspective. Her work inside flying helicopters exposes her to these different viewpoints daily and much more than those of us who view the world from ground level.
Michael Prater is well known for his dramatic drawings where he uses heavy black lines to conjure dark images that are lit from an unusual angle with an artificial light source. In this show they are mostly self-portraits that reveal an inner struggle. Michael is Associate Professor of Art Education at Ball State who has experience as a graphic artist. His aggressive approach to drawing yields imagery well suited to visualizing the internal and external toll of aging and the emotions that go with it.
At 6:15, Aimee and Michael will speak about their work and their processes.
The exhibit will be on view with works for sale in the gallery and at gordyframing.com through May 3, 2025.

Various locations
The Muncie Artists Guild’s featured Artist of the Month for April is Diane Burrell, Painter, Enamellist, and TeacherDiane’s Life as an artist has evolved over 55 years, yet the source of inspiration has remained constant. She is affected by her surroundings where she lives and works in her home studio on a lake in North Anderson. The abundant ever-present fodder, wildlife, deer, blue herons, eagles, osprey, waterfowl, and fish provide a constant source of tranquility, and subject matter, which is revealed through the exploration and use of color in multiple layers of acrylic paint or enameling, (which is Glass fired onto metal at 1,450 degrees.) Other sources for subject matter come from her dedication to serving others through a food assistance program at Trinity Episcopal church. She is energized by sharing her experiences through teaching and displaying her art.
Diane graduated from Ball State University in 1988. She continued her graduate work through 1995. She is an art teacher with an emphasis in painting, metal design, and enameling. Diane taught art at Daleville Community Schools and is retired from South Madison School Corporation in Pendleton Indiana. She continues to teach classes in painting and enameling to all ages at Pendleton Artist Society, Gallery 119 on a regular basis. Diane has won numerous awards from: the Indiana State Fair, Madison County Artist Society, Pendleton Artist Society, and Muncie Artist Guild and was accepted into the Hoosier Salon.
