Hosted weekly at the Muncie Liberation Studio, Third World Study Group is meant to be a place where we can engage in collective study to develop a more holistic understanding of the political state of the world and its history. We seek to hear from people engaged directly in struggles for national liberation and to better understand the role of U.S. imperialism in global politics. 

George R. Dale, a Muncie newspaper editor in the 1920s, received national attention for his opposition to the Indiana Ku Klux Klan. After years of legal battles, threats of violence, and attacks on the family home, George was elected Mayor of Muncie in 1929. Daisy Dale, the great-great granddaughter of George, tells the story of the legal challenges he faced a century ago. 

Daisy Dale is a lifelong Muncie resident, local activist and journalist. With her interest and experience in local politics and history, she maintains the Muncie Post-Democrat, an outlet started by her great-great grandfather George R. Dale in 1921, and now continues its legacy online. She is also a board member of Muncie Queer Alliance and a commissioner for the Muncie Human Rights Commission.

Celebrate spooky season by creating a festive fused glass haunted house or jack-o'-lantern. Participants may choose from provided templates or create an original design using a variety of colorful glass. Finished projects will be kiln-fired after class and available for pickup at the front desk the following week. 

All tools, supplies, and safety gear will be provided. Participants must wear closed-toe shoes. Safety glasses will be provided, though participants who wear prescription glasses may use those instead. Preregistration is  preferred; limited walk-in tickets may be available—please call ahead.

Discover the art of bookbinding in this hands-on workshop. Participants will learn the Secret Belgian binding method to create a one-of-a-kind hardcover book featuring beautiful exposed stitching along the spine. This unique binding technique combines durability with an eye-catching design, resulting in a handcrafted journal that's both functional and artistic. 

All tools and supplies will be provided. Participants should be comfortable measuring and cutting paper with a craft blade, using an awl to puncture book board and pages, sewing with a needle and thread, and working at the pace of the class to complete their book during the workshop. Fifty years after the startling discovery that monarch butterflies spend winters in the forests of Mexico, photographer and National Geographic Explorer Jaime Rojo reveals this winged wonder of the insect world in new ways with never-before-seen visuals. Tag along with conservationists and citizen scientists who are helping this species avoid catastrophic threats, all through Jaime’s beautiful photos and videos.

Jaime Rojo is a photographer and a strong advocate of wilderness conservation and large-landscape connectivity. His goal is to capture images that can ultimately become tools for the creation of new protected areas. He is an International League of Conservation Photographers Senior Fellow, a trustee of the WILD Foundation, and the recipient of honors in competitions such as World Press Photo and Wildlife Photographer of the Year.
