56 Past Events at Maring-Hunt Library

The Bashville Boys play hard-driving bluegrass staying true to the path blazed by Bill Monroe and the Stanley Brothers while integrating more recent influences like the Dead Milkmen, Ween, and the Violent Femmes. Instruments played during the set include mandolin, banjo, guitar, lap steel, and bass.

Music on the Move! is a free program available through a partnership between Muncie Symphony Orchestra and the Ball State University School of Music. Elementary students experience a small chamber ensemble (string quartet) in a casual, personal, interactive musical conversation. String ensemble's program theme Music is a Language is mainly meant for elementary age students and lasts approximately 25 minutes.  More info here. 

In the fall of 2012 the program has been visiting elementary schools, Muncie Children's Museum and will be visiting Maring-Hunt Public Library on November 17th with performance at 2pm and repeated performance at 3pm.

Best suited for audiences in grades k-6, but is enjoyable by all.

Instrument petting zoo will be available immediately after performances.

Muncie Economic Empowerment will begin its 'Cooperative Power' educational series with a presentation on the unique ways to identify local resources and how to coordinate those resources to keep wealth within Muncie's borders.

Muncie Economic Empowerment would like to introduce a new paradigm in poverty reduction and local wealth building to Muncie, IN. We will reduce generational poverty by creating cooperative business ventures that will be owned and run democratically by the workers, and savings and investment initiatives to assist in anchoring that wealth locally. We would also like to build collaborative programs with like-minded organizations and community members to further build dialogue regarding poverty and to help the public become more aware of the benefits of cooperative businesses. The Foundation Fighting Blindness (FFB) is offering a free Ask the Experts Seminar to help those with retinal diseases such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and retinitis pigmentosa better understand these diseases and provide access to information and resources related to living with vision loss.  The seminar will address disease inheritance, other risk factors, advances in overcoming these diseases, and related topics.

Bad Art Night is a collaboration between Cornerstone and Muncie Public Library, and encourages attendees to raid through a collection of arts and crafts supplies to make art with very low expectations. Guests are awarded for their tacky, terrible, and creepy art with various prizes. The event is free to attend with a suggested $5 donation to help with costs.

One of the reasons that Ray Bradbury remains one of the best-known writers of our time is that his dreams of reaching the stars became our dreams, too. The stories that grew into The Martian Chronicles and filled the pages of The Illustrated Man paved the way for his half-century relationship with Caltech, NASA, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and all the missions that took humans to the moon and launched unmanned craft to all the planets of our solar system. Lecture illustrations show artifacts curated by the Bradbury Center, as well as a survey of Space Age art inspired by Ray Bradbury’s tales.
