Human Library at Minnetrista 1pm to 4pm @ Minnetrista Cultural Center Oakhurst Home 1200 N Minnetrista Pkwy
Cost: Free Ages: 18+ The Human Library® is a safe place for serious conversations about often difficult and perhaps sensitive topics and allows participants to explore and examine their own conscious or unconscious bias. The Oakhurst home at Minnetrista is a beautiful and historic location for this impactful event.
At a Human Library® our Books are people who are on loan to Readers (YOU!). Books have lived experiences that reflect stereotyping and bias in our society and are ready to not just tell a story but to engage in a conversation with you. They expect and appreciate difficult questions that lead to greater understanding. Every Book on our Bookshelf has experienced stereotyping, stigma or challenges and marginalization due to their lifestyle, profession, diagnosis, belief, disability, or social status, to name a few.
At the Human Library® we invite you to examine and explore the topics on our Bookshelf and perhaps meet your own prejudice or better understand the life of one who experiences stigmas and stereotypes.
Each Book checkout is for a half hour dialogue. Check out 1 or as many Books as you have time for. The last check out is at 3:30 p.m.
Always FREE, this is a terrific learning opportunity and you will thank yourself for making the time to come!
The Oakhurst Experience will be closed on April 27, but the Oakhurst home will be open for the Human Library Project event from 1-4 p.m.
