Based on the classic by Lewis Carroll, “Alice” is an action-packed theatrical circus full of surprises, amazing acts, video projection with 3-D mapping and live music. Alice’s adventures are a manifesto to fantasy and free spirit, as well as a profound philosophy towards respecting all opinions, including those that may be different from your own.

The show includes video, photography, installation, book arts, and performance, and shows a progression between analog film, digital video, electronic lens-based media, and new media technologies. From still-capture (using a camera to record and freeze movement), to a moving sequence of images recorded with analog film and digital video methods, the artists make tangible the seemingly mysterious and sometimes misunderstood art that can be defined as New Media.

Sarah Perkins received her BA from San Diego State University and her MFA at Southern Illinois University – Carbondale, and is professor emeritus at Missouri State University. She is a past board member of the Enamelist Society and is currently a member of the Collections Committee at the Ornamental Metal Museum. She has shown her work in the U.S., India, Canada, Europe and Asia. Her work can be seen in Metalsmith, Ornament, American Craft and in the books The Art of Fine Enameling, Contemporary Enameling, The Penland Book of Jewelry and The Art of Enameling, and she was the juror for the Lark Publications book 500 Enameled Objects. She has taught numerous workshops around the United States, including at Arrowmont, Penland, San Diego State University and California College of Art, as well as at Tainan Graduate Institute of Applied Arts in Taiwan, the University of the West of England in Bristol, and at the Sanskriti Foundation in New Delhi, India. Perkins is represented by Mobilia Gallery in Cambridge, Mass.

Concert Choir and Chamber Choir

Cost: General Public: $8 in advance / $10 at the door Seniors: $5 in advance / $7 at the door BSU Faculty/Staff: $5 in advance / $7 at the door Students: free* in advance / $5 at the door Ball State’s choirs open the season with a diverse and engaging program of music, including themed sets, led by faculty conductors Andrew Crow and Kerry Glann. Concert Choir’s program features explorations of darkness and light, extending into themes of human connection and community. The Chamber Choir will offer a musical “Advice Column,” with texts that attempt to guide us with sincerity and with humor.
The Chamber Choir is the university’s most prestigious concert choir, typically comprised of 32 singers: mostly upper-level music majors and graduate students. The Concert Choir is a select ensemble open to students of all disciplines by audition. Over the course of several semesters of participation, members will perform accompanied and a cappella music representing a broad spectrum of history and cultures.

Byron Stripling, known for his dynamic stage presence and powerful trumpet skills, has toured with the legendary Count Basie Orchestra, bringing jazz classics to life with his extraordinary talent and charisma. His performances are not only a tribute to the greats of jazz but also a showcase of his own unique style and improvisational prowess. Carmen Bradford, a Grammy-nominated vocalist, has performed with top-tier ensembles such as the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, enchanting listeners with her warm, expressive voice and impeccable phrasing. She has shared the stage with icons like Wynton Marsalis and Doc Severinsen, demonstrating her versatility and artistry across various musical settings. This event is made possible by the College of Fine Arts and the Arts Alive program.

The ensembles are under the direction of Mark Buselli.

Sherrie Maricle leads The DIVA Jazz Orchestra, her quintet FIVE PLAY and co-leads the 3D Jazz Trio. She is also a busy freelance performer, a published composer/arranger and a dedicated educator, clinician, guest conductor and soloist.
With her bands Sherrie has performed at many of the world’s most acclaimed music venues and festivals, from Lincoln Center to the Kennedy Center, the Hollywood Bowl and beyond. Additionally, Sherrie and DIVA were featured at the 2017 NEA Jazz Master’s Awards Ceremony, the soundtrack for the NBC-Macy’s Fireworks Spectacular; on CBS Sunday Morning with Charles Osgood, on TCM’s televised broadcast of the 25th Anniversary of the Kennedy Center and NHK Japan’s New York Jazz.
