FOUND FIBER, FOUND OBJECTS, YARN BOMBING: Tactile & Telling.
Feature Fiber Art Installation
Debra Gindhart DragooYARN BOMBING isn’t GENTRIFFITI, fiber arts can be beautifully showcased in an art installation, perhaps through large-scale crochet or knit installations, intricate textile sculptures, or immersive weaving environments. The interplay of color, texture, and form in fiber arts lend itself well to creating captivating installations that engage viewers on both visual and tactile levels. These installations can explore themes such as identity, tradition, or environmental sustainability; offering a rich and immersive experience for audiences to explore and contemplate. Yarn bombing, also known as guerrilla knitting, is a form of street art where knitted or crocheted yarn is used to create colorful displays in public spaces. It’s a way for artists to add whimsy and warmth to urban environments, often covering objects like lampposts, statues, or bike racks with knitted or crocheted material. Yarn bombing can bring a lot of joy and creativity to public spaces.
Are you ready to be entertained? CCA’s First Thursday musical guest is Arttacgo Alexander. Muncie Artist’s Guild
Various locations
Sherry Adkins is our Muncie Artists Guild's Artist of the Month for May 2024.Sherry’s Artist Statement: Growing up in the countryside of Indiana, surrounded by fields, forests and wildlife instilled in me a deep appreciation for nature. Often, I would have a front row seat to the deer that wander into the back yard, a view of the many birds that would gather at the bird feeders, and the families of raccoons that would climb up the apple trees for a snack.
As an adult, I have a sense of peace and a strong connection to God being in nature. I often admired the natural details and textures in nature. I believe that where I find God the most is in the details. Through the art of pyrography, I aim to push the boundaries of drawing with heat and fire, and reveal an up close, detailed view of the wildlife and nature that surround us.Her work will be shown at the following locations: Northwest Bank (E Charles), Old National Bank (S Madison), Rosebud Coffee House, Vera Mae's Bistro, and Parlour Salon.

Alison Beam-Hindman is our Muncie Artists Guild's Artist of the Month for July 2024: Alison Beam-Hindman gained an appreciation for nature on the farm where she grew up in Northwest Indiana and from her father who sparked her early interest in the science of astronomy by pointing out stars by name in the clear, night skies. Beam-Hindman holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University North Central and a Master of Arts from Ball State University.A self-taught painter, Alison found more time for her hobby after retiring from Ivy Tech Community College East Central. She joined the Muncie Artists Guild in 2015 and credits the other members with providing mentoring and friendship that she needed to hone her skills as an artist.
In competition with astrographic photographers, Beam-Hindman’s painting, “A Closer Look…”, won 2nd place for Imaging and also won the Judge’s Choice Award at the Great Lakes Astronomical League’s competition. Alison’s triptych paintings of Comet McNaught won first place for Imaging at the Annual Indiana Family Star Party in Frankfort, IN. Her acrylic paintings and one photograph have also won awards at the Muncie Artists Guild’s Annual Shows.
Beam-Hindman’s lifelong interest in astronomy and space exploration inspires much of her work as do space artists Chesley Bonestell, and astronaut/artist Alan Bean. Beam-Hindman is also a charter member of the Muncie Astronomy Club since 2000 and is active in the Club’s community outreach program on science education.
Her work will be shown at the following locations: Northwest Bank (E Charles), Old National Bank (S Madison), Rosebud Coffee House, Vera Mae's Bistro, and Parlour Salon.

September 25 – November 15, 2024
Featuring work by Jason Bernagozzi (Colorado State University), Jamie Hahn (Kent State University), Evelyne Leblanc-Roberge (University of Rochester), Kristin Reeves (Grand Valley State University), and Eric Souther (Western Michigan University), Still / Moving: Framing New Media explores the relationship between still and moving imagery in interdisciplinary lens-based artwork. The show includes video, photography, installation, book arts, and performance, and shows a progression between analog film, digital video, electronic lens-based media, and new media technologies. From still-capture (using a camera to record and freeze movement), to a moving sequence of images recorded with analog film and digital video methods, the artists make tangible the seemingly mysterious and sometimes misunderstood art that can be defined as New Media.
