  • Funktion and DJ Turtle Matt 10pm to 12:42pm @ Be Here Now
    Ages: 18+
MICHIGAN GROOVE ACT FUNKTION IS BACK IN TOWN PERFORMING WITH DJ TURTLE MATT!!! Come out for a groovin' night of soulful tunes and get your dance on!!!

    Funktion (Jam, Funk, Groove)
    Kalamazoo, MI

    www.FUNKTIONmusic.com
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0HKAUug3Q8 (High Quality)
    http://www.reverbnation.com/funktionkalamazoo

No matter what frequency your eardrums vibrate at, the sonic eruption from Kalamazoo based Funktion will dose them at the right waves per second. It could be the silky smooth R&B that gets you. Or maybe it’s the cool island dub rhythms that grab your ears. Then again it might be the rowdy hip-hop flavor that seizes your attention. But if none of that snatches your marbles, the unhinged, guitar-fueled fireball of funk will surely do the trick. Any way you slice it, if you’ve got a pair of ears, Funktion will unwrap something for them to chew on.

But don’t show up to a live show unless you’ve come to get down; this stuff is additive-free, high-octane dance fuel. And due to the fact that Funktion’s sole mission in life is to make you shake your booty, trying to stand still might cause you a few problems. You see, the human body simply isn’t equipped to deal with this much raw musical energy in the stationary position. The only way to withstand this tidal wave of sound is to get loose, get down with your bad self, and feel that groove out on the floor. Ride that funky wave out, because the only thing that could bring it to an end is last call. But then there’s always the next night’s last call in another city just down the road…

THE MANTRAS (Jam Band, Progressive Rock, Fusion): The Mantras' music is a high-energy collaborative of funk-rock, electronica, metal, and fusion that will shake your knees and rattle your toes. Comprised of guitarist Keith Allen, drummer Justin Loew, keyboard player Justin W. Powell, bassist Brian Tyndall and percussionist Brent Vaughn; the band unified their musical vision in 2005 and has continued to hone their sonic direction and precision show by show. The Mantras continue to impress their peers and win over new fans at every turn with their instrumental prowess, solid lyrics, and unending drive to put on an amazing show every night!
Hailing from Greensboro, North Carolina, the band has been playing to ever-increasing sold out crowds in their home state during 2011, and are experiencing rapid growth into new markets throughout the South, Midwest and North East. In 2011 alone, The Mantras and their members have shared the stage in double-bills and direct support with Umphrey's McGee, Eoto, George Clinton and P-Funk, Kyle Hollingsworth Band, Papadosio, The Werks, Perpetual Groove, Zoogma, Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band, and many more.

FRESH HOPS: (Progressive, Jam Band, Experimental) Fresh Hops is a 8-piece band from the Tri-Town Area of North West Indiana. After three years of being together, their sound continues to evolve, as the fans and family continue to grow. Fresh Hops has created a love for the "live" show, incorporating the concept of "having fun" as the main idea. Each show is different, consisting of a mixture of creative originals, and catchy/crafty instrumental cover songs. Fresh Hops puts the emphasis on real music while blending their influences into something brand new. The band celebrates the rich history of each instrument playing bluegrass/classical songs through the violin, classic soul/jazz with the tenor sax, and heavy metal with distorted guitars. Somewhere along the way all the elements combine to create a truly unforgettable experience.

GLOSTIK WILLY: (Funk driven Jams) "Glostik Willy is a diverse 3-piece band straight out of Indiana, making a statement on the scene. With Jameson Bradford on guitar, Buddha Aguilar on bass, and Ralf Mowf on drums, this band is unstoppable. This progressive infused funk rock band is sure to make heads turn everywhere they go.

    ♫ BOOMBOX BIO

BoomBox consists of two versatile producers, DJs, songwriters, multi-instrumentalists and longtime friends Russ Randolph and Zion Rock Godchaux. Together they develop an electronic blend of vintage Rock and Blues made to move dance floors while incorporating their signature Backbeat, Psychedelia and Funky House sounds. Applying a multi-track platform, they are free to create their hybrid style on the fly with a rhythm that moves fans and opens them up to Godchaux and Randolph’s overall vision. Derived from the rich musical history of Muscle Shoals, AL, to the psychedelic rock and underground electronic scenes of the west coast, their unique approach can only be achieved by the blending of sound and culture.BoomBox’s first release, Visions of Backbeat, contained the breakout song "Stereo" that built the foundation for their rapidly growing fan base. After years of steady touring and honing their sound, they released their sophomore effort, downriverelectric, and was hailed by critics as a progressive follow up effort. BoomBox are continuously working on new releases, using a blend of programming and live instrumentation with both members on drums, Randolph on keys, and Godchaux on guitar, bass and vocals. Each live show is unique to the venue and the crowd, who are the driving force of the rhythmic BoomBox experience. “It’s all natural, it’s all in real time, and that’s why it’s Rock ‘n’ Roll”, says Godchaux. Traditional set lists are never created prior to shows, instead, BoomBox chooses the music based on the atmosphere, to create a one-of-a-kind experience for fans. Randolph adds, “We just want to go out with no game plan. That way it’s fresh for us, and we can follow the energy of the crowd. We’re down to get down, and we hope that people are down with us.”
