Infectious diseases touch the lives of everyone. Whether it's something as minor as the common cold or as serious as Ebola, we all have grappled with infections. This DVD series, produced by The Great Courses, will provide a comprehensive overview of diseases from the mundane to the fatal with renowned physician and award-winning professor Dr. Barry Fox of the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health.

Cost: $30, includes needlepoint project Ages: 18+ The roots of needlepoint go back thousands of years to the ancient Egyptians, who used small slanted stitches to sew up their canvas tents. Archaeologist Howard Carter, who is known for discovering King Tut’s tomb, found some needlepoint in the cave of a Pharaoh who had lived around 1500 BC. Today, needlepoint offers a wide range of possibilities for self-expression. In this class, you’ll learn the techniques and stitches necessary to finish the project provided in class. A painted canvas and supplies are provided.

1908 Streetcar Riots

Cost: No Charge - Reservations Required On January 1, 1908, the Muncie chapter of the Amalgamated Association of Street and Electric Railway Employees went on strike over unfair labor practices. On the first day, “Five persons were injured and two streetcars were riddled with stones.” The situation quickly turned violent and Muncie Mayor Leonidas Guthrie requested support from Indiana Governor Frank Hanly to restore order. Hanly instituted martial law in the city for several weeks. This presentation explores this unique event in Muncie’s history.
