Cost: $5, Must register in advance Ages: 13+, Family registration 8+ Learn to create your own magic show using the principles of design thinking. Ball State University Emerging Media Professor Tong Li will guide students and families through an immersive learning experience to create and perform their own magic tricks. Participants will create their first magic trick to share with family and friends! Through this process, you will understand design thinking and its connection with magic!
This workshop is recommended for adults/youth ages 13+ and families. Children ages 8–12 may register with an adult who will be present for the duration of the workshop.
Registration will close up to 72 hours prior to the start of the event to provide time for instructors to prepare.

Ball State creative writers will offer a series of prompts to spark ideas and explore the longstanding relationship between text and image. Participants will be invited to share their work during a poetry reading and musical concert on Thursday, April 11.
This workshop is free but space is limited and registration by March 20 is required.

Knowing Nature: Stories of the Boreal Forest brings into focus one of the most vital ecosystems on the planet. This timely exhibition explores the relationship between people and nature while taking audiences on a learning journey. Through exquisite photography and videography, first-person stories, authentic objects, and interactive experiences, audiences discover the heart of this forest through the natural and cultural history of a place and its people. This exhibition is bilingual, with displays in both English and Spanish.
Knowing Nature: Stories of the Boreal Forest / Historias del bosque boreal was organized by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service. It is made possible by the National Audubon Society with additional support from The Anders Foundation, Charlie and Nancy Hogan, and Anne C. Madison.

Cost: Included in General Admission Breaking the boundaries of what is deemed traditional Indigenous art, Clearly Indigenous: Native Visions Reimagined in Glass examines how Native artists reinterpret cultural narratives and designs. The two-pronged exhibition focuses on how Native artists have melded ancestral ways with new methods and materials, while also examining the historical narrative of how glass art came to Indian Country from a historical perspective. Visitors will be wowed by over 100 glass art objects created by contemporary Native American and Indigenous Pacific-Rim artists.
Clearly Indigenous: Native Visions Reimagined in Glass was originated by The Museum of Indian Arts and Culture, Santa Fe, New Mexico. The traveling exhibit was curated by Dr. Letitia Chambers and is toured by International Arts & Artists.

Based in Las Vegas, Justin Favela creates large-scale installations and sculptures reflecting American pop culture and the Latinx experience. His work has been exhibited internationally and across the U.S., including at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis and El Museo del Barrio. Favela, a 2021 Joan Mitchell Foundation Fellow, is currently the artist in residence at the Kohler Arts and Industry program. This event is made possible by the College of Fine Arts and the Arts Alive program.

Weathering Time and For the Love of Trees: Lens-based Artwork by Nancy Floyd - Artist Talk 6pm @ Art and Journalism Building, Ball State University Room 225 1001 N. McKinley Ave.
Nancy Floyd has been a visual artist for over 40 years. Her interests include the aging female body, the passage of time, barren landscapes, and trees. She uses photography, video, and mixed-media to address the ways in which lens-based media can connect deeply with experience and memory. Floyd has received numerous grants and awards including a 2022 Guggenheim Fellowship, the 2019 International Center of Photography / GOST Books First Photo Book Award, a 2018 Aaron Siskind Photography Fellowship and a 2014 John Gutmann Photography Fellowship.
Floyd holds a BFA from the University of Texas at Austin, an MA from Columbia College Chicago, and an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts. She is Emerita Professor in the Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design at Georgia State University in Atlanta and lives in Bend, Oregon.May 18, 2025

Gordy Fine Art and Framing is proud to highlight the art of Aaron Nicholson who is a sculptor and a painter living in Muncie since 2012. The paintings in this exhibition were made during his residency in Greece in January and February earlier this year. The opening party will be on First Thursday, August 7, from 5-8pm. The artist will be on hand. Light refreshments will be served, and the public is invited to attend. At 6:15, Nicholson will speak about his workPrior to Gordy’s exhibition, Nicholson is organizing his 4th Iron Pour at the Fire Up Downtown event on August 2. In collaboration with Muncie Downtown Development Partnership, Nicholson is managing a program called Pedestrian Ironworks where artists will be engaged to design manhole covers that will be placed in downtown Muncie. At the Fire Up event, Nicholson will invite people to carve their own manhole cover designs into sand molds and then they can watch him pour the molten iron into the molds. Once they have cooled, they will be available during Gordy’s opening party for participants to pick up.
Nicholson’s first cover made for the Pedestrian Ironworks program has already been made and will be on display at the Iron Pour and in the Gordy exhibition. It will then be installed in its permanent location on Walnut Street in time for ArtsWalk on October 2.
The exhibition at Gordy will remain on view through November 1.

The Muncie Artists Guild's Artist of the Month for August 2025 is Karen Evans.Over the years, Karen's creativity has taken several forms, including cutting hair, decorating cakes, making candy, painting wooden and ceramic ornaments and crafts, taking photographs, managing flower gardens, making silk flower arrangements, and decorating for holidays, which included painting on windows at home and work. MuncieArts August Artist Spotlight: This month we are featuring the visual, literary, and healing arts with two creatives: Brandon Duran of Asana Bodyworks and Hailee Loar.Brandon will offer free short chair massage treatments. He specializes in deep tissue massage therapy, helping his clients in rehabilitation, progression in health, postural assessment and overall body wellness.
Hailee works with watercolor, acrylic, and ink, experimenting with various methods of display. Her stylized paintings and drawings inspire deeper contemplation within our natural environment and serve as pensive reminders to approach the world with fresh curiosity. There will be short remarks at 5:45 pm.
