He is now retired and continues to live in Muncie. Light refreshments will be served, and the public is invited to attend. The artist will be on hand to engage with visitors. At 6:15 the artist will give a brief presentation about his work and answer questions.“My prints derive from life; the town I live in and the people I see,” says Johnson. “I love drawing… I think of it as a wonderful basic human activity, like singing. I find etchings and woodcuts are ways to extend my drawings. I can take the best information from each of my drawings and combine the more successful elements, increase the scale, experiment with color, and transform the whole thing into ink. I appreciate the heightened impact Relief Prints impart to the original drawing… what may have been indefinite graphite scribbles turns into definite black lines and shapes. The show will be on view with works for sale through November 26.

First Thursday Gallery Walk - Total Solar Eclipse Edition - John Morris, Out of This World
5:00pm to 8:00pm @
Gordy Fine Art & Framing Company
224 East Main Street
Gordy Fine Art & Framing Company is proud to highlight the art of graphic artist John Morris during the First Thursday Gallery Walk - TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE Edition. The artist will be on hand. Light refreshments will be served, and the public is invited to attend. At 6:15, John will speak about his work and his process.
John Morris’s art builds a conversation between the digital world and the actual world. His works are built in stages by first designing digital collages from comic book images and then meticulously recreating them as real collages with physical clippings. When that is complete, he then translates the composition into its final iteration using Perler Beads. This process mimics the action of flattening a digital file and highlights the value Morris places on manual labor in the digital age through the labor-intensive use of beads,
The exhibit will remain on view through April 27.

The Cup

Cost: FREE Admission with Menu Purchase! Please join us for a very special evening, presented by Cuplets, Live Poetry at The Cup, on Sunday, July 28th, at 5p, The Indiana Chitlin Circuit!
RSVP HERE:
https://facebook.com/events/s/the-indiana-chitlin-circuit/8336938519661109/
This Hoosier project is based on the historical Chitlin Circuit that sprouted during the period of Jim Crow segregation. African American performers weren’t allowed to share a stage with white performers, so a network of live entertainment venues in the US emerged that catered to black audiences and black entertainers. The PuICC facilitates and shares the pride and verve of the historical entertainers that burgeoned (bur-jn) African American entertainment throughout America.
With the PuICC, three poets collaborate, creating an atmosphere of artistic excitement, all three sharing the mic, taking turns reading a piece of poetry inspired by the last piece of poetry read. Each poet feeds off the other, not knowing what to read until that VERY moment. This magical round-robin of sorts goes on for about 20 minutes. We will take a small break and then each poet gets a solo set of about 10 minutes. As a group each, our poets read a poem by lucille clifton – line by line.
This is unlike any poetry event you have been a part of and it is likely VERY different than what you’ve seen or been audience to! We are excited for you to experience this with our very own Indiana State Poet Laureate, Curtis L. Crisler, and two of our local poets, Cuplets Host, Abigayle Devendorf, and Gayle Radwick!
Admission is FREE with a purchase from the menu of The Cup! 🥯☕️
Join Cuplets monthly on every 4th Sunday at The Cup at 5p! The Cup is a coffeeshop/restaurant at 1606 West University Avenue in The Village by the campus of Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Free parking is behind the café, enter the parking lot off of Dill Street by Be Here Now.
