Create Your Own One-Stringed Musical Instrument 10am to 1pm @ Madjax Maker Force Design Lab - 1st Floor 515 E Main St, Muncie, IN 47305
Cost: $15 due at registration; Scholarships are available to any individuals or families with a demonstrated need. Email Kyra Zylstra, Director of Initiatives and Partnerships, at kyra@madjax.org. Ages: 16+; 12+ w/registered adult This introduction to building stringed instruments guides participants in the creation of their own one-stringed “diddley bow” instrument using a wooden neck and an Altoids tin resonator. The diddley bow style can be traced back to West African origins brought to America by African slaves, later inspiring the origins of the Blues movement.
We will also explore the basics of playing with a slide, and design variations for building more advanced instruments. You will leave inspired and equipped with skills to continue your making journey with further instruments on your own, exploring different designs and aesthetic choices.

Art in Bloom - Saturday 1pm to 7pm @ David Owsley Museum of Art, Ball State University 2021 W. Riverside Ave., Ball State University
Visit the David Owsley Museum of Art on May 20 and 21 for Art in Bloom, an annual celebration featuring floral creations by regional designers inspired by works of art in the galleries!
From 1pm to 5pm on both days, visitors can enjoy the arrangements, docent-led tours, music, and activities for all ages. An evening reception from 5pm to 7pm on Saturday, May 20, will offer jazz, hors d'oeuvres, and a cash (only) bar.
There is no admission fee for this event, and weekend parking on the Quad Circle is also free.

The weekend also marks the final opportunity to see the special exhibition A Wild Story: The David and Sarojini Johnson Print Collection, which closes on May 21.

"One World, One Sky" is a brilliant program that follows Sesame Street's Big Bird and Elmo as they explore the night sky with Hu Hu Zhu, a new friend from China. Together, they take an imaginary trip from Sesame Street to the Moon, where they discover how different it is from Earth. They will also find shapes in the sky that will help them find the North Star. This cross-cultural adventure opens children's eyes to the sky, helping them see how people all over the world are connected.
