The Delaware County Fairgrounds is Muncie's in-town camping and RV accommodation hub for everyone visiting for the Total Eclipse of the Heartland! The Magic City Market, with live music and dozens of artisan Makers, will be there all weekend for visitors and locals! While you enjoy our wonderful Hoosier town, you will be able to socialize and shop with the Muncie Makers Market at the Magic City Market held in Heartland Hall at the Fairgrounds. For THREE DAYS in April 2024 - Saturday the 6th, Sunday the 7th, and Monday the 8th - from 10a-6p, in Heartland Hall, we will feature a General Store, 2024 Eclipse souvenirs, beautiful handmade arts, delicious homemade goodies, craft beer, local food trucks with hot meals, live music, indoor seating and outdoor picnic seating, and much more. Unique and high quality offerings from our creative community await! This is a mandatory event for locals and a welcoming place for visitors!

Enjoy the solar eclipse on a 1,000 acres with unobstructed views! Before the eclipse enjoy model aviation airshows, model aviation simulators, vendors, and tour the world's largest model aviation museum.  Camping is also available.

Enjoy Minnetrista’s expansive lawns—all are welcome to one of the best places in town to experience this once-in-a-lifetime event! Celebrate the science of solar eclipses with demonstrations and activities meant to educate. Local author and illustrator Laurie Lunsford will read her book The Solar Eclipse is Coming, and the Muncie Astronomy Club will provide expertise. Visitors can attend a performance of A Golden Curve of Light, an eclipse-themed one-act play written by award-winning playwright Jennifer Blackmer. After the activities, visitors can claim their spots and prepare to experience the eclipse totality event at our viewing party!

Join us for the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse in the heart of Downtown Muncie on Monday, April 8, 2024! We will begin gathering @ 1:00pm (weather permitting) within the circle of Canan Commons, 500 South Walnut Street. Totality will occur @ 3:09pm, plunging those in the line of totality into total darkness for nearly 4 minutes! As the celestial bodies align, we invite you to witness the breathtaking spectacle surrounded by the ambiance of Canan Commons, Muncie's lovely Downtown greenspace and amphitheater!

Our DWNTWN neighbors will be having specials all day, so make plans beforehand to have lunch, dinner, or drinks at one of our many restaurants and bars. You can shop with our retailers and get your Eclipse keepsakes too!

Event Highlights:

Eclipse Viewing: Meet at Canan Commons starting at 1 pm, Totality will occur @ 3:09 pm.

Unwind: Bring your yoga mat or blanket, viewing glasses, hydration, crystals or stones to recharge during the Eclipse.

Live music: There will be live soothing music, bring an instrument, even if it is only your voice. Immerse yourself in the melodies that will elevate your Eclipse experience!

Celebrating the Total Solar Eclipse, Gordy Fine Art & Framing Company invites all to join us for an Open House. Refreshments will be served including "Close Encounters Pie" in the shape of an alien and mashed potatoes in the shape of the Devils Tower.  

T-Shirts designed by John Morris commemorating the eclipse will be for sale.

Steven Spielberg set his film Close Encounters of the Third Kind in Muncie Indiana. Gordy is supporting an effort to place a large scale bronze sculpture of the Devil's Tower in Muncie as a public landmark on the 50th Anniversary of the movie in 2027!

A total solar eclipse will occur during the day on April 8, 2024 and will only be visible by only some of the world, including Muncie, IN (weather permitting, with proper eye protection)! The solar eclipse will begin on Monday, April 8, 2024 at approximately 1:52:13 p.m., when the Moon starts to block out the southwest side of the Sun (at the 5 o'clock mark). The Moon will continue to block out more of the Sun until totality, when the Sun is fully blocked by the Moon. Totality in Muncie begins at 3:07:37 p.m.* You can safely view this portion of the eclipse, and this short portion alone, without any eye protection because the entire face of the Sun will be completely blocked by the Moon. Here at Ball State University, totality will last about 3 minutes and 40 seconds, with it ending at 3:11:15 p.m. The partial solar eclipse will continue until the entire event ends at 4:24:16 p.m. *Exact start and end times will vary by location. Follow safety guidelines for determining when to view totality.
