A special edition of First Thursday, October ArtsWalk, is back featuring unique arts, dazzling shows, and delicious food. This ArtsWalk is hosted by Muncie Downtown Development Partnership, Ball State University College of Fine Arts, and MuncieArts.

111 Arts Gallery

111 Arts Gallery is having a group shop show. Ivan Harmon, Jamie Noggle, Daniel Bunker, and Nate Harmon will be showing works and doing Halloween tattoo specials (art and love tattooing). 

Accutech
Main and Walnut Streets
Professor Kevin Klinger's 4th year immersive learning studio is designing a structure on the southwest corner of the intersection between Main and Walnut Street on Accutech's property. A really important part of their project has been reaching out to the community and hearing people's stories about their experience living in Muncie. They will have a table set up outside of Accutech for Artswalk to talk about public art with Muncie locals.

Beyond I Can/CARS is a day center for people with disabilities. Our clients come here to use their hands and artistic abilities. They also go places in the community and learn life skills.

Carrie Wright Silk Gifts and Gallery

Carrie Wright Silk Gifts & Gallery presents Microscapes & Macroscapes. Silk artist Carrie Wright releases all the never-before-seen art she's been creating since moving into the historic Murray Building! The gift shop is brimming with OOAK hand-crafted artisan treasures, and all the art will be for sale. 405 S. Walnut, Suite 201, directly above the Caffeinery.

Cornerstone Center for the Arts

Cornerstone Center for the Arts, 520 East Main St., again will host local artists and Cornerstone artists in displaying and selling their work Oct. 5 from 5-8 p.m. in the Great Room. 

Artist in Residence Debra Gindhart Dragoo is coordinating this event. Community artists participating in this First Thursday include Stefan Mckell, Val Kelley, Jill Palumbo, Angel Gillette, Tom Stader, Liliana Osborne, Hazel McCully, Shera Hixson, Megan Shanna and Safari Reign. Cornerstone artists include Eugene Boyd, Leon and Laura Crosby of Crosby Family Art, Michael Lassiter and Debra Gindhart Dragoo. The featured gallery artist for October is the Muncie Artists Guild. 

Delaware County Historical Society
122 E. Washington
The Delaware County Historical Society is planning on having a display of historic Muncie images based on the collection of prominent collector, and past board member, Mike Mavis.  The exhibit will be displayed on the first floor at the Moore-Youse House at 122 E. Washington  and will be free to the public.

Our Time Art Show, exhibits the paintings and ceramics of three artist friends, Larry Fentz, Martin Price, and Kerry Shaw. After retiring from long careers in education, marketing, and graphic arts, they now focus their time on the art they enjoy making. This show brings them together for one creative viewing experience. Refreshments will be served.  Artist talk will be at 6:15.

Join us for the opening of "Poppies are Tough", a collaborative show featuring BSU Art Alumni Mary Arnett-Delaney and Rachel Kline. Mary uses text based work to process grief and anxiety with sincerity and humor because hey, what else can you do?  Meanwhile Rachel paints an excessive amount of poppies using mediums like acrylic, marker, ceramic, and an irreverent sense of humor.

Fall Festival at Madjax 5–8 pm
In partnership with the East Central Neighborhood Association, bring your family and join us at Madjax for an evening of pumpkin carving, games, and fun activities! This event is free and open to the public.

Design Lab Pop-Up Workshop 5–8 pm
Create a heat-pressed mug with the Madjax Design Lab staff! Choose from several pre-printed Halloween or fall-themed designs. This activity is free for Design Lab members and $5 per mug for nonmembers.

Muncie Arts
Please join MuncieArts at 8:30PM in Dave’s Alley on First Thursday as we countdown and turn on the Midnight Palace light installation for the first time! We will have more programming around the project and an official ribbon cutting later this fall. This project is part of the Muncie Public Art Program funded in part by the Indiana Destination Development Corporation and the American Rescue Plan.

Karen Fisher, who paints and is an active community member since arriving in Muncie in 1972, completed her degree in art education at Ball State in 1976 when she met her husband Paul. In 2003 Karen and Paul purchased Art Mart from longtime friends, Brian and Genny Gordy, and have successfully run the art supply business in the BSU Village.  

Fisher’s artwork will be on display during the month of October at the following locations: Northwest Bank (110 E Charles), Old National Bank (2401 S Madison), Parlour at Hazelwood Hair Salon, Rosebud Coffee House, and Vera Mae’s Bistro

Carmen Nikae is an actor and clown who explores themes of vulnerability & resilience, simple presence, and The Ridiculous through the combination of live clown work and silent short films. Her silent short films, made in the style of Charlie Chaplin, will be on display, and she will be doing a live clown performance at 7pm. Stop by to view her films and her process, ask questions, and support the art of clowning!
