"Life in Plastic" by Sarah Shaffer

Join Cornerstone Center for Arts for First Thursday on June 2, 2016 for the opening reception and art show titled "Life in Plastic," by Sarah Shaffer. This show explores society's monumental impact through the form of our tiniest role models. Beyond objectification and the weight of the world's expectations, creating this body of work was a very personal journey for Sarah. She created these paintings using one of her daughter's dolls as a model with the color palette of her childhood memory. These pieces embody her own path to define her self-image and the desire to not pass along physical insecurities to future generations. The opening reception will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Cornerstone Art Gallery on the second floor of Cornerstone Center for the Arts.

Get ready to laugh at the Muncie City Wide Comedy Jam on Saturday, June 18 at Cornerstone’s E.B. Ball Auditorium! This Father’s Day edition of the Comedy Jam will feature performances by comedians Barbara Carlyle, Max Price, and Bobby Jaycox. The evening will be hosted by Mic Larry.

 The first 400 tickets sold will be $5. All additional tickets are $10 in advanceor two for $15 until June 17. Tickets will be available at the door for $15 with doors opening at 7 p.m. and the show starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are available in advance online at www.cornerstonearts.org, at Cornerstone’s second floor desk from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, and by calling 765-289-9687 or 765-215-5574.

 A special after party will be held at the Village Inn, 2221 East Jackson Street, from 10 p.m. until 2:30 a.m. DJ Goldie will deejay the party with a $5 cover charge at the door.

 The Muncie City Wide Comedy Jam is presented by Hurd & Harris Entertainment in association with Cut It Down Productions powered by Cornerstone Center for the Arts. A portion of the evenings proceeds will benefit the Muncie Unity Center.

Bead Art Workshop

Attendees will use beads and wire to create designs like dragonflies, butterflies, hearts, and more! This hour and a half workshop is free and open to the public!

Let your imagination and creativity collide during this unique workshop. Use a flower pot to build a mythical fairy house for your garden, backyard, porch, or window sill. Children ages 4 - 6 must attend the workshop with an adult.

Children ages 7 and up will be enjoy this painting workshop, designed especially for children! Whether your child is an experienced artist or brand new to the world of visual arts, this workshop is all about having fun!

Adults are welcome to join the workshop and paint alongside their child. An additional registration and registration fee is required. No registration is needed for those who only want to observe the painting fun.

Fairy Jar Workshop

In celebration of all things fairy students will create their own mystical fairy scene inside of a ball jar using found objects and various crafting supplies. This workshop is for students ages 6 to adult and children under 13 should attend with an adult. This workshop is free and open to the public.

Summer Celebration

Join Cornerstone Center for the Arts on Sunday, July 31 for its Summer Celebration. This event will conclude the summer class session and will feature group and solo dance performances and an art display featuring the work of all of Cornerstone’s summer students. Youth and adult performers will showcase their talents in this free event.

The show will feature one act of performances that will feature different classes and students. It will take place from 2 to 3:15 p.m. in the E.B. Ball Auditorium. The Colonnade Room will be open from 2 to 4 p.m. with light refreshments, a student art gallery, demonstrations, as well as information and registration for the fall class session. Celebration is free and open to the public.

Attending Summer Celebration is a perfect way to see everything Cornerstone’s arts program has to offer and to get information on upcoming classes, camps, and workshops. Wedding Showcase

Are you planning a wedding in East Central Indiana? Don’t miss your chance to meet the best wedding and event vendors in East Central Indiana all in one day! The Cornerstone Center for the Arts and PrimeTrust Federal Credit Union Wedding Showcase presented by Johnny Carino’s, Star Photo, 104.9 WERK, and 104.1 WLBC is on Sunday, August 14, from 12 to 4 pm. Spend the afternoon exploring your options for wedding venues, photographers, djs, caterers, florists, dress and tuxedo shops, as well as many other wedding essentials!

The Cornerstone Wedding Showcase is designed to help attendees streamline the wedding planning process. Those who attend the show will be able to tour all of Cornerstone’s rental facilities - beautifully decorated for a number of events. There will be a fashion show starting at 2 pm to show off the latest wedding fashion, featuring selections from the area’s bridal and tux shops. Adding to the fun, various door prizes will be given out throughout the day from the vendors!

Get ready to laugh until it hurts at the Muncie City Wide Comedy Jam on Saturday, August 27 at Cornerstone’s E.B. Ball Auditorium! This edition of the Comedy Jam will be hosted by Marvin M-Dubs Phipps who you may have seen on P Diddys Bad Boys of Comedy or on TBS Just for Laughs, he is also the host at Jokes and Notes Comedy Club in Chicago. The show features performances by comedians Just Nash, Ronnie Phunny George and Kelsie Huff.

The Muncie City Wide Comedy Jam is presented by Hurd & Harris Entertainment along with 285 South and in association with Cornerstone Center for the Arts. This is definitely going to be a show you don’t want to miss! 

Cornerstone will also host two workshops mapping Muncie’s past. The classes are entitled: Dear Muncie: Mapping Muncie History Using 19th Century Diaries and Happy Birthday, Indiana: Mapping 200 Years of Indiana History. The first Dear Muncie workshop will take a closer look at a few former Muncie residents’ diaries. This workshop will be at 6 p.m. September 27 at Cornerstone. The second will explore Muncie’s maps throughout the years. This workshop will be at 6 p.m. November 16. These workshops are free to attend.

This fall Cornerstone Center for the Arts and Scarevania Haunted House have partnered up to scare people while making a difference. The Primetrust Federal Credit Union - Son of Scarevania Haunted House presented by Lifestream Services will open at Cornerstone on Saturday, October 1.

The haunt is a one-of-a-kind maze of terror through nearly 10,000 square feet of Cornerstone’s third floor. Capitalizing on the already ominous former Masonic Lodge, Son of Scarevania will leave people of all ages feeling petrified. The haunt is designed for mature audiences and parental discretion is advised. Son of Scarevania will be open in addition to Scarevania’s current location on Granville Avenue.

The haunt will serve as a new fundraiser for Cornerstone, which provides thousands of youth and adults annually with quality arts education and special events in a historic setting.
