"FURY", an Experimental Theatrical Performance Directed by PlySpace Resident Fellow Derek Spencer
7:30pm @
Cornerstone Center for the Arts
Heritage Room
520 E Main St. Muncie, IN 47305
Cost: $5 FURY adapts the classic Greek tragedy The Eumenides for a contemporary context. Spencer and his ensemble of BSU acting students draw on physical theater, immersive performance techniques, and improvisation to examine the role of anger in judicial reform. As Athena gathers her jury for the first ever trial, the Furies, ancient gods of anger, eagerly await the execution of the matricidal Orestes. True justice, however, may be more complicated than a simple verdict.
Originally devised with the ensemble and performed in an ornate Masonic temple, Fury asks audiences to examine their own relationship to justice, reform, and authority. Audiences may be directly interacted with by performers in this site-specific, immersive performance.
FURY will run for four nights at Cornerstone Center for the Arts. The opening night will be Thursday, April 21, 2022, followed by performances on Friday, April 22, 2022 and Saturday, April 23, 2022. The final performance will be on Sunday, April 24, 2022. All performances will be held in the Heritage Room on the second floor of Cornerstone Center for the Arts at 7:30pm. Tickets are $5.00 per person and are available for purchase online at www.plyspace.org/events. For free or reduced-cost tickets, please contact Lexi Musselman, Program Coordinator, at hello@plyspace.org. Masks are not required, but recommended.

The Muncie YART is now held Downtown, at Canan Commons, twice a year, Spring and Fall, and coincides with ArtsWalk. The Spring 2022 Muncie YART is scheduled for the evening of Thursday, June 2nd!
This community art sale, with a goal of making art affordable and accessible to everyone, brings together Artists and Art patrons in a casual and unique setting. The Spring 2022 Muncie YART will be held in conjunction with the 2022 Brink of Summer ArtsWalk on Thursday, June 2nd, from 5-8p. The last YART featured over 100 Artists! Each YART Artist will be present throughout YART to meet the public, discuss their Art, handle sales personally, and some Artists will be making Art LIVE at YART! This is a great opportunity to enjoy your family interacting with local culture in a dynamic, lively, and relaxed atmosphere.
The Spring 2022 Muncie YART will feature a wide variety of handmade jewelry, photography, clothing, oil/acrylic/watercolor paintings, fused glass, ceramics, knits, pottery, candles, toys, drawings, sculpture, lampwork glass, stuffed animals, digital art, mosaics, LIVE ART and LIVE MUSIC, and so much more!

La Ruta: Walter Benjamin's Last Passage - Jason Reblando and Joanne Diaz
6:00pm @
Art and Journalism Building, Ball State University
AJ 225 (Second Floor)
1001 N. McKinley Ave.
Jason Reblando and Joanne Diaz will present a collaborative word-image project that explores the intersections of exile, migration, history, and landscape. For millennia, the Pyrenees Mountains have been the site of many kinds of crossings. In La Ruta: Walter Benjamin’s Final Passage, poet Joanne Diaz and photographer Jason Reblando consider two of these crossings: the arduous hike that philosopher Walter Benjamin took across the Pyrenees in 1940 as he evaded Nazi persecution; and the trek that 500,000 Spaniards took from Spain to France at the end of the Spanish Civil War. This collaborative word-image project explores the intersections of exile, migration, history, and landscape.

You have your manuscript (or even a grouping of poems or a short story) ready to send out, but you're not sure how to take the plunge into publication. Do you need an agent? How do you find one? Can you send it to more places than one? What if I get rejected...am I a failure? Where do you find places that will accept your manuscript? Do I pay big money to get published or do I get paid for my work? How do I get blurbs for my cover? Is self-publishing an option? We will cover these questions, your questions, and so much more in this two-hour workshop on how you can get published - by a big publishing house, smaller presses, or even online journals for a poem or a short story. You will walk away with a lot of ideas, inspiration, and places to get your manuscript or your shorter works published.Instructor: Lylanne Musselman, award-winning poet, playwright, and visual artist

A reception and book signing to follow the presentationJoin us for a captivating evening featuring award-winning writer, researcher, and editor Keith Roysdon, alongside esteemed author and former journalist Jill Blocker. Together, they will engage in a compelling discussion about their latest works and offer insights into their unique perspectives.
Keith Roysdon, a lifelong Indiana resident now residing in Tennessee, will discuss the latest book he co-authored with Douglas Walker, Cold Case Muncie. The book marks the duo's fourth collaboration on crime and justice in Muncie and Delaware County. It delves into the chilling narratives of unsolved murders in the area, providing a gripping exploration of the mysteries that haunt the community. Roysdon will also talk about writing fiction, including recently published short stories.
Joining Roysdon is Ball State alum, Jill Blocker, author of What Was Beautiful and Good. Her novel transports readers to the tumultuous era of the First World War, where a young singer's 'joie de vivre' is disrupted by the chaos of conflict. Blocker's narrative explores themes of freedom and resilience, inspired by real-life events that sparked an international art movement. Originally from the U.S., Blocker currently lives in Zurich, Switzerland.

The Cup

Cost: FREE Admission with Menu Purchase! Please join us for a very special evening, presented by Cuplets, Live Poetry at The Cup, on Sunday, July 28th, at 5p, The Indiana Chitlin Circuit!
RSVP HERE:
https://facebook.com/events/s/the-indiana-chitlin-circuit/8336938519661109/
This Hoosier project is based on the historical Chitlin Circuit that sprouted during the period of Jim Crow segregation. African American performers weren’t allowed to share a stage with white performers, so a network of live entertainment venues in the US emerged that catered to black audiences and black entertainers. The PuICC facilitates and shares the pride and verve of the historical entertainers that burgeoned (bur-jn) African American entertainment throughout America.
With the PuICC, three poets collaborate, creating an atmosphere of artistic excitement, all three sharing the mic, taking turns reading a piece of poetry inspired by the last piece of poetry read. Each poet feeds off the other, not knowing what to read until that VERY moment. This magical round-robin of sorts goes on for about 20 minutes. We will take a small break and then each poet gets a solo set of about 10 minutes. As a group each, our poets read a poem by lucille clifton – line by line.
This is unlike any poetry event you have been a part of and it is likely VERY different than what you’ve seen or been audience to! We are excited for you to experience this with our very own Indiana State Poet Laureate, Curtis L. Crisler, and two of our local poets, Cuplets Host, Abigayle Devendorf, and Gayle Radwick!
Admission is FREE with a purchase from the menu of The Cup! 🥯☕️
Join Cuplets monthly on every 4th Sunday at The Cup at 5p! The Cup is a coffeeshop/restaurant at 1606 West University Avenue in The Village by the campus of Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Free parking is behind the café, enter the parking lot off of Dill Street by Be Here Now.
