Story Telling Pottery: Making and Decorating a Hand-Built Plate and Cup

Cost: $20 Ages: 55+ Adults age 55+ are invited to gather for a five-session workshop series where you will learn a variety of basic pottery techniques to create your own dinnerware set. These sessions will bring together the skills of pottery with the craft of meal making to tell stories about the meals and foods we love and have enjoyed in the past. Participants will learn basic hand-building pottery techniques including: clay preparation and treatment, basic pottery-ware construction such as bowls and cups as well as decorating techniques. The fifth and final workshop will be a potluck meal using pottery made during the workshop. Face masks are required to participate.

To understand how the museum obtains, displays, and cares for its collection, attendees will get an exciting behind-the-scenes look at the exhibit Collecting Community, now on display in Minnetrista's Heritage Gallery. Cost: $20 PER PERSON DUE AT REGISTRATION Ages: 65+; may be accompanied by 30+ Connect with other older adults during this 6 session class. Instructors will guide participants through the basics of hand-building pottery techniques including clay preparation, treatment, and glazing. Students will each complete a custom place setting including plate, bowl, cup, and accessories. During the last class session, participants are invited to contribute to a community meal to use their place settings, sharing conversation about the role of food and meal times in family and cultural traditions.

COST: $20 PER PERSON DUE AT REGISTRATION
This class is made possible because of funding from the Lifelong Arts grant from the Indiana Arts Commission. Because of this, participation is limited to individuals 65 and older. Older adults may be accompanied by a younger relative or caregiver through the registration of two participants. This class is led by Tammeron & Anna Francis, a husband and wife team from ClayWood Pottery.
All of our workshops and classes are led by professional makers, artists, entrepreneurs, educators and community partners. We strive to provide high-quality and unique learning experiences. Registration will close up to 72 hours prior to the start of the event to provide time for instructors to prepare.
*Note: Registrations and email reminders will be processed through SimpleTix. For multi-session workshops, only the first class meeting will appear on your ticket.
