18 Past Events at Muncie Friends Church

Historic Muncie Friends Church and the Old West End Neighborhood Association will host a fall Family Arts Festival featuring an art exhibit and sale by Old West End artists, mural workshop by Denise King, Paints and Pastries with Sheila Piazza, Shamaniacs drum circle, free Kindermusik class, peace song sing-along, make and take art, and more. Quaker Women will serve a chicken and noodle lunch from 11 to 1. This is a fundraiser for the church and OWENA.

Join us for our candlelight Christmas Eve service and refreshments at our historic, downtown church. We will have a Christmas story, children's time, readings and carols. 

Parking is on the Jackson Street side of the building and the entrance is on the Jackson Street side of the building toward the west end.

Transgender man Brent Walsh will share his spiritual journey in dealing with his sexual identity during the Third Sunday Conversation series at 11 a.m. Sunday at Muncie Friends Church: A Quaker Meeting.

Walsh was born female into a strict, religious home that held traditional Christian values concerning gender roles. But, from an early age, Walsh – then known as Brenda – knew he was different from his sisters, and soon learned that his Christianity would be challenged by questions about his sexuality.

Walsh came out as a lesbian in youth, and transitioned to male at age 32, grappling with long-held beliefs that seemed to contradict his reality. He came to believe that being LGBTQ need not impede his relationship with the divine.

Walsh earned a Master’s of Divinity degree at Earlham School of Religion in 2013 and currently works at Earlham. He is a guest speaker at faith institutions that want to better understand and support transgender people.

Refreshments will be served at 10:30 a.m. during fellowship time in Goddard Hall. Walsh will speak and hold a question and answer session at 11 a.m. Guests are invited to stay for dinner in the downstairs dining hall following the discussion.

Third Sunday Conversations are held the third Sunday of every month and feature discussions with marginalized groups to promote understanding, and are open to the public.

Friends Church is located at 418 W. Adams St. Parking and entrance are on the north side of the building, on Jackson Street.

Kids will wash your car exterior for a free will donation to help pay costs of summer camp. Snacks will be for sale, too!

Neighbors will gather to sell miscellaneous items both inside and outside the building. In the event of rain, booths will be inside.

Old West End Neighborhood Association will collaborate with Muncie Friends Church to offer a free, family-oriented arts festival from 10 to 3 on the church grounds and Cherry Street on Saturday, Aug. 24.  There will be a city-wide art exhibit, a chalk-walk art competition, "It Takes a Child to Build a Village" cardboard box construction project for kids, community mural creation, a presentation on artist Bob Ross by Jim Needham, painting classes with Denise King and Sheila Piazza, music by "Married Folk," and other presentations and performances TBA. Quaker Women will serve lunch in the dining room in the basement of the meeting house. We are hoping for a community drum circle, too.

Quaker Women's Circle will promote community goodwill and offer holiday items for sale at their annual bazaar. There will be displays of fall decor, bakery items, plants, home decor, papercrafts, holiday treats, vintage wares, jams, jellies, and pickles for sale. Lunch will be provided with your choice of soups, barbeque sandwiches, chips, cookies and beverages.There will also be a cookie walk.

Quaker Women's Circle will offer baked goods, and possibly some holiday gifts, for sale to raise funds for charitable projects.

The Quaker Bakery will offer an assortment of delicious food, just in time for your holiday planning. Items for purchase will include pot pies, chicken & noodles, apple dumplings, breads, pies and spiced pecans. We will have a variety of sweets including buckeyes, peppermint bark, fudge, sugared almonds, chocolate pretzels, and back by popular demand, the Cookie Walk will include all of your favorite cookies.
