In a small town in Kansas, window Flo Owens ahs everything planned for her two daughters: Madge, the elder, is engaged to a rich you man, and Millie, the younger, prepares to attend college on a scholarship. When rough and handsome Hal arrives to work for the next-door neighbor, Flo's plans fall apart as the charismatic young man vies for the attention of both women. At once gentle and forceful, real and expressionistic, Picnic paints a moving portrait of young women and men coming of age in a society at work against them.
