This Saturday, September 15, local Boy Scouts of America Troop 22 celebrates 20 years of BBQ heaven. Their Annual Hog Roast will be held in the Community Building of the Delaware County Fairgrounds from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Beginning Friday evening and lasting throughout the night, the Boy Scouts of Troop 22 will be tending fires and Dutch ovens instead of sleeping. This time-honored tradition will yield their one-of-a-kind applesauce to be served with their signature BBQ pork sandwiches. Along with the BBQ sandwiches and apples, the meals will also include baked beans, baked potatoes, bread, a soft drink and home-made desserts.
The cost of the meal is eight dollars for adults, while children from 6-10 years of age can eat for five dollars, and kids under six receive a free meal. Meal tickets may be purchased in advance from any Troop 22 Scout, or at the door on the day of the event.
New this year, Troop 22 is hosting an arts and crafts fair in conjunction with their delicious BBQ pork meal. Local artists and crafters will have a variety of items available for purchase including, jewelry, fine art, home décor and more. Door prizes will be given throughout the day.
Every September for the past 20 years the troop hosts a hog roast as their primary fund raiser to help pay for outings, camp fees, equipment, supplies and advancement awards. As a community service project, the Troop assists the Hamilton Township Fire Department with their annual hog roast. In return, the fire fighters provide the hog roasters for the troop’s use.
Troop 22, chartered by St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, has been very active in our community for over 60 years. The Troop has an average membership of forty boys and an impressive list of Eagle Scouts. This event is the primary source of funding for the many activities offered to the boys. Please come enjoy some BBQ sandwiches and browse the items for holiday gifting.
