The Artist Within

The Artist Within will feature the artwork of students from Muncie Central High School. Art teachers Margie Frank, Britt Husman, and Helen Zacek bring together a showcase of art from their Advanced Art students for this First Thursday art show. The student advanced art show showcases the talent and variety from the advanced art students at Central High School.  This exhibit will remain up through the month of May with an opening reception will be held May 7th from 5-8pm.  Live music by Bryce Taylor and light refreshments will add to the evening’s festivities.

Minding the Gaps in the Foundation of the Sensual

Drawing and paintings, step aside. Sculpture will take over the gallery at Gordy Fine Art & Framing for the month of May, thanks to Ball State University art instructor, Chet Geiselman. The artist describes himself as, “a creative problem solver, a collector and arranger of objects and information, a fabricator of visual forms, and a lifelong student of spiritual and human nature.” Bauhaus design has served as a beacon for his personal creations made of wood, steel and “recontextualized found objects.” Geiselman grew up in a small German farming community in southern Indiana. His grandfather was a blacksmith and his father and uncle were welders. Chet learned to weld and build things at a very young age, and eventually earned an MFA in Metalsmithing from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.

Guests to the January Salon Show at Gordy’s may recall a pair of framed wood sculptures by Geiselman. Neatly contained in deep white wood cases, undulating wood forms recall smooth-skinned knobby trees, or perhaps, sand dunes held in time. Each of Geiselman’s pieces suggests a formal relationship to the space it inhabits and alludes to the potential functionality of the objects that compose it. The full title of this exhibit is, “Minding the Gaps in the Foundation of the Sensual.”

The artist will speak briefly about his work and answer questions beginning at 6:15 PM during the opening reception on Thursday, May 7, 2015. Light refreshments will be served, and the public is invited to attend. There will be art-related activities for both children and adults. Muncie Central High School Art Retrospective

The show is a collection of drawings, prints, paintings, and sculptures done by Introductory and Advanced students from the school's Art Department.  There will also be some paintings done by Success Class students.

Some of the pieces from Yorktown High School are inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe’s work, and other pieces are pattern-design animals inspired by designs used in art therapy, while a few pieces are still life studies and watercolor batik works.​

Three works from the ongoing series Pandora’s Box that focuses on what monsters or demons that may have had come out into the world after Pandora opened the container. The pieces also makes comparisons to the Christian apocalypse. An example being Famine and Poverty and War and Conquest being identified as two of the four horseman.

FORMETA, a graduate architecture thesis by Steven Putt and Daniel Eisinger, investigates the future of form through several interactive installations that suggest the qualities of dynamic form and authorship. This exploration intends to serve as a basis from which architecture can more easily move towards the realization of dynamic form.

​Darkness Discovered is an architectural installation that looks to explore the uncertainty that darkness holds on our spatial perception. Visitors are encouraged to slowly explore the essence of light added to the space by interacting. Flashlights are provided for experiencers to explore the light, darkness, shadow and reflections that the space has to discover.

Owner/Artist Lesley Scott-Gillilan will be showing original works of Zentangle art for sale.  Zentangle is a method of drawing that allows anyone, regardless of age or art background, to create beautiful images in a way that is relaxing and promotes inner creativity.  Scott-Gillilan is a Certified Zentangle Teacher and offers semi-private classes by appointment.

The Spring 2015 Muncie YART will be held in conjunction with the May 2015 First Thursday Gallery Walk, in the Old National Financial lot on the corner of Walnut and Charles Streets in Downtown Muncie, Indiana, on Thursday, May 7th, from 5-9pm. This community art sale, with a goal of making art affordable and accessible to everyone, brings together artists and art patrons in a casual and unique setting.

All forms of art are welcome! Art of all kinds, by all kinds of artists! YART encourages interaction between artists and the community, hoping to make art more accessible, especially to those who think they cannot afford to buy art for themselves. To this goal, all YART art will be priced below $40!

Each YART Artist will be present throughout YART to meet the public, discuss their art, handle sales personally, and some artists will be making art LIVE at YART!

The Spring 2015 Muncie YART will feature a wide variety of jewelry, clothing, photography, oil/acrylic/watercolor paintings, fused glass, ceramics, knits, pottery, candles, toys, drawings, sculpture, lampwork glass, stuffed animals, digital art, mosaics, the YART Hands-On Children’s ArtSpace, the Art Mart Mobile Supply Shop, the BSU Ceramics Guild, the John Peterson Pottery Students, Muncie OUTreach, LIVE MUSIC, and so much more!

Enjoy a fun night out painting with friends at The Fickle Peach in Downtown Muncie. The teacher will guide you step by step to create your own piece of artwork. Each session will feature a different painting. Registration fee includes one workshop, supplies, and a flight of craft beer provided by The Fickle Peach. Registration is limited.
